Paul Simon announced a new song off his future album “Stranger to Stranger”. It represents the second track he has distributed before the album’s release on June 3. Entitled “Cool Papa Bell,” the single has a stream-of-consciousness aspect to it. Simon sings about “Cool Papa” Bell or James Thomas, the 20th century baseball gamer.
“Cool Papa Bell” in some ways refers to his 1973 album “There Goes Rhymin’ Simon”, in particular with regards to melody and pop-folk tempos. Yet it offers particular revisions like a tuba that peppers the light-hearted single with a weightier feel.
Paul Simon has explained that “Stranger to Stranger” is about placing a fresh spin on what has come to be older fare. He explained:
“it is about getting you to really hear something in a completely new way…about creating music that sounds old and new all at once -music with a sense of mystery.”
Fans can anticipate Simon to tour supporting the album; however, he has not still shared dates or any other details.
